Eating Disorder Recovery

We offer eating disorder recovery coaching at the hub. This is a supportive program where your coach is with you to hold your hand every step of the way and guide you in achievable steps to unrestricted eating and allowing your body to nutritionally rehabilitate so that you can physically recover. I will also help you identify neural pathways that require rewiring and develop tools for doing this.

Recovery from a restrictive eating disorder has to involve food and in most cases it is to involve weight gain. My primary focus is the elimination of restriction, eating disorder behaviours, and the subsequent weight restoration and supporting a person in whatever it is that they need in order to achieve full recovery. This means unrestricted eating, and not suppressing one’s natural, healthy, body weight.

We focus on the biology of how energy deficit leads into the activation of an eating disorder, and how malnutrition leads your body and brain to acting and thinking in the way that we associated with eating disorder behaviours.  And … how unrestricted eating (responding to what the body is requesting of you via physical and mental hunger) leads to the return of a healthy mind and body.

Our practitioners and referral partners that we use have specific experience and qualifications in the treatment of eating disorders. What this means is that upon making contact, you will be in the hands of someone who has a very good understanding of what predisposes a person to developing an eating disorder, what perpetuates eating disorders, and most importantly, what helps a person to recover and acts as protective factors against relapse.

We offer treatment for all people on the spectrum of disordered eating. Whether you have been medically diagnosed with an eating disorder, or you have struggled with disordered eating, yo-yo dieting or body image issues for a short or long period of time; rest assured that you will be offered treatment that will be right for you, at whatever stage you are at. We offer treatment options for the following:

  • Anorexia Nervosa

  • Bulimia Nervosa

  • Binge Eating Disorder

  • Orthorexia

  • Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)

  • Body image dissatisfaction or weight concerns

  • Body Dysmorphia

  • Muscle Dysmorphia

  • Compulsive exercise behaviours

We take great care to practice in a non-judgemental, inclusive and compassionate way, treating all people with the respect and dignity that they deserve, irrespective of health status, weight or size. We ensure that all practitioners and referral partners practice with a non-diet approach, which is aligned with the Health At Every Size® movement. What this means is that your weight, shape or size will never be a focus of treatment. Rather, we focus on the creation and coaching of healthy habits and skills which support mental, emotional and physical health.

Disordered eating is more common than most people thing. This may be behaviours and/or symptoms that may reflect part of the same criteria as eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder or OSFED. Long-term disordered eating may or may not lead to an eating disorder, but the damage that disordered eating causes is not to be underestimated.

Common disordered eating examples include:

  • Fasting or chronic restrained and restrictive eating

  • Binge eating

  • Skipping meals

  • Self-induced vomiting

  • Chronic yo-yo dieting

  • Unbalanced eating (eg restricting/removing whole food groups)

  • Laxative, enema or diuretic abuse

  • Steroid use

  • Diet Pills/Other drugs (Prescription or otherwise)

Long-term disordered eating causes many issues physically, mentally and emotionally, it may or may not lead to a diagnosed eating disorder but healing your relationship with food and body is possible…

At Mind Body Alive we take great care to practice in a non-judgemental, inclusive and compassionate way, treating all of our clients with the respect and dignity that they deserve, irrespective of health status, weight or size. We ensure that we practice a non-diet approach, which is aligned with the Health At Every Size movement. What this means is that your weight, shape or size will never be a focus of treatment. Rather, we focus on the creation of healthy habits and skills which support mental, emotional and physical health.

By using a combination eating psychology, hypnotherapy & coaching enables for a  positive, empowering and transformational approach that’s designed for anyone who eats. Each of us has a unique, fascinating, and ever changing relationship with food.

The therapy we use at our clinic affirms the primary importance of this relationship. It sees our challenges with eating, weight and health not as an indication that we’re broken, but as a beautiful opportunity to grow and evolve. This form of therapy isnt just for those with eating disorders yet anyone that struggles with food, eating, body image and weight.

It affirms that our relationship with food has important lessons to teach us if we choose to listen. And it recognises that our challenges with eating, weight and health are intimately connected to other primary life dimensions – relationship, family, work, sexuality, our search for meaning and fulfilment, and so much more.
